It is abundantly clear that the Muslims have been afflicted with great trials, their unity has been shattered, their strength has been exhausted and their ranks scattered. Today we are living in an age when Muslims have reached a limit worse. Due to the sense of humiliation that sadly reigns over all Muslim countries regardless of class or station, we continually ask ourselves in our private and public gatherings and counsels: What is the cause that has led the Muslims to this lowly and despicable state and this humiliating and shameful condition? And what is the underlying reason for their arrival at this low level of debasement and wretchedness?
