The Wise Counsel of Luqman

Al-Hikmah is a divine prerogative, bestowed by Allah upon whomever He chooses among His servants. Its essence is multifaceted: some define it as ‘knowledge that harmonizes with virtuous deeds,’ while others see it as ‘acting appropriately in the right time and place.’ Yet, it also embodies foresight, understanding, virtuous conduct, and positive perception. All these definitions aptly capture its essence. Allah, The Highest, endowed Luqman (peace be upon him) with profound foresight, intelligence, and discernment, engraving them deep within his heart, so his words, actions, and demeanor emanated wisdom. Allah Revealed: “And indeed We bestowed upon Luqman Al-Hikmah…” [Luqman (31): 12]. The teachings and counsel within Luqman Al-Ḥakim’s narrative offer profound guidance and exemplify impeccable conduct in inviting people to Allah and nurturing children. It outlines a blueprint for raising generations, elucidating paths to success, and imparting holistic goodness. Hence, mentors, fathers, and teachers must diligently glean insights from it, forging reflective lesson plans for propagation and education. These lessons tangibly engage hearts and enrich minds, bearing elementary details that resonate with one’s moral compass. Undoubtedly, conveying Allah’s Message to humanity demands thoughtful strategy and tact, which the Luqman narrative abundantly provides.
