The devil’s enmity and hopelessness drive him to continuously misguide mankind from the Path of Allah. This misguidance takes various forms, such as planting seeds of doubt or promoting deviant ideas that go against the sacred teachings of Islam. The Ummah has suffered from varying levels of deviation, some of which remain prevalent today, while others continue to be uncovered. The devil and his allies use delusive plottings to have such an impact. This book is the sixth instalment from Dar as-Sunnah of the illustrious Imam, Abu’l-Faraj Ibn Jawzi. It is a complete translation of his well-known work, in which Ibn Jawzi enumerates the mechanisms and modus operandi used by the devil to deceive and lead mankind away from the Straight Path. This work is of particular value and importance because by unearthing and accentuating some of the traps of the devil, mankind can avoid them and navigate others away from falling prey to his harm. The author wrote that the devil was only able to creep in during the night of ignorance. If the dawn of knowledge had shone on him, he would have been exposed. Thus, the author decided to warn people of his plots, as identifying evil is a form of warning against it. This translation of Tablees Iblees provides important analysis in developing self-awareness and critical thinking to ward off many deceptions of the devil that have plagued mankind since the time of Adam. For these reasons alone, this work is a valuable addition to the English-speaking world’s scholarly discourse.
